TURNING IDEAS INTO REALITY

TURNING IDEAS INTO REALITY

Everyone has “great ideas” but maybe 0.1% of them actually succeed!  Today the world has changed and everyone wants to be the next big thing!  Therefore, the mushroom growth of entrepreneurs over the past decade and a half just continues to grow because as long as humans keep having ideas.  The birth of more and more entrepreneurs will occur?

Another reason is that this modern lot is way more well informed and exposed to global affairs thanks to technology and the harsh reality that survival in this modern day uncertain savage economy is next to impossible by solely relying on their local college degree.

Back to the main subject!  Ideas fail for many reasons but if one follows these dos and don’ts then one might have more of a chance at attaining success in making a dream into reality.

  1. When you have an idea in your mind – write it down on a whiteboard and start with detailed research about the idea.
  2. Once your research about the idea you have is complete do a complete and harsh SWOT analysis and no matter what your gut feels rely on the data within the SWOT analysis.
  3. If the data makes sense in your SWOT analysis then run the numbers that you have from your research.
  4. If the numbers make sense and add up – now you can start on developing a complete mind map
  5. Once your mind map is complete – ensure you write down (do not keep things on a computer on in your head) a solid execution strategy – this should include everything to your launch (marketing / op-ex / sales / etc. everything
  6. The last document you need to have in your possession is a document that defines what your exit strategy is – where your sources of funding in the case of emergency will come from and how to protect yourself and your own business fail-safe measures

That’s it!  Now you can start implementing your idea into a reality.

Always remember that ideas are only good if there is a well thought out action / execution plan attached to them that mentions numbers.  Good luck on making your ideas into realities and if you need any free advice or help along the way – do reach out to me!

CHASING BRAND NAMES

CHASING BRAND NAMES

I strongly believe that God created man, Man invented technology, Technology made man forget about God and humanity thus turning man into a soulless robots!

Right from the minute even before one enters school the parents start brainwashing children about the importance of attaining a perfect GPA and then graduating from an Ivy League school.  Pretty often the parents define a career path for the said child and enforce a strict regime of studies and tuitions to ensure any and all forms of success.

Some parents even believe especially for their daughters that they must become doctors or have an esteemed profession so that she to the future mother-in-law will look more desirable only to be made into a maid and child bearing factory after the nuptials are done.

It is extremely sad that a child’s own vision and dreams are crushed due to the fact that the parents are trying to live out their own fantasies of unattained success through their own new generation.  The driving force often more as a weapon for the parents is fear, manipulation and emotional black mail.

Up until the year 2000 the world operated on a different philosophy where a brand name education mattered – After the tech revolution and especially social-media entering our lives everyone started chasing money because secretaries became useless, the company gatekeepers like telephone operators were jobless and due to co-working spaces professional privacy developed issues.

Does a brand name education matter from a top school?  In my opinion not really!  My reason is that when we enroll our children, we need to ensure patience and listen to them with the ability to understand their preferences.  Further to that we must respect their desires and guide them with positivity rather than shame them because they do not desire to follow our own dream of them attaining a degree in our field of choice!

I firmly believe that if a student is studying in the field of his or her choice and truly desires to follow a career path then they will do extremely well due to the push and pull factor aligning within their own mind and soul.

The same goes for a professional life that is apart from an academic life!  People go to work because they have to!  They have studied and attained a flawless 4.0 GPA from an Ivy league medical college only to be stuck in some developing country as a low-grade sales person in a pharmaceutical company… SO they do not perform well out of frustration and lack of interest.

As for me I love to go to work every day because I love to do what I do – sales!  So to me because I love to do what I do – I do it very well!  (No, I am NOT arrogant and have had so many failures in trying to please everyone that I eventually just gave up trying to satisfy an unhappy world)

My advice is you cannot predict the future…  and you definitely cannot make everyone happy so why not focus on your own self development and refocus your life and goals – write them down on a simple piece of paper – define the end result – then set smaller goals to attain that end result.  Your confidence will grow as you have these small victories.

Whatever you do, please do not make the BIG mistake of expecting too much from life or people because there is nothing much that you can control around you – only the way you are and whether you react or sensibly respond to situations.

Today when I have a professional dialogue almost 95% of the time people do not bother about the exact details of my college life and who my roommate was and how many times, I did my laundry.  As time is the most precious commodity today we immediately get to the point and discuss possibilities and solutions.  We avoid any negative personal dialogue which I also advise you to do.

Nobody wants to know your personal sad story because everybody has their own battle scars from walking their own path in this journey of life.  Please remember – even if you have not studied from an Ivy league school or college – all hope is not lost because you will win on your positivity and the ability to display your own best attributes that only you know!

As I close – PLEASE REMEMBER THAT
  1. Time is money today!  It is more valuable than money!
  2. Never lie as it will just complicate things further and a problem for YOU as it will one more thing to remember (the lie)!
  3. Do not be negative or degrade anyone to look good – keep it impersonal and be professional always sell yourself on your positive abilities!
  4. Have faith in your self and maintain your grace dignity and self-respect knowing your established boundaries and self-worth (As I salesman I get told NO a thousand times and rejected daily – BUT it’s the 1001 customer who says yes that makes it all worth it – so be patient and resilient!)
Don't worry... your time WILL come!

Good luck!  If you found any value in my blog – Please share it with your network!

INVALUABLE RESOURCES

INVALUABLE RESOURCES

Today most businesses are in a massive flux due to global economic uncertainty.  The west and Europe are worried about energy issues. The Middle-East is culturally confused as well as emotionally upset with certain forces and is struggling to liberate its self by aligning with forces more towards Asia and other regions.

Countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India that are caught in the middle and do not have such strong economies due to their own issues and external influences are very concerned about their own global futures as the dynamics of the world have change and are rapidly evolving but in what direction nobody knows.

Everything to the public behind what the media displays is based upon assumptions with the shifting of power and brokering of regional strength and strongholds between the west & the east.  In turn all the stock markets are shaky and even prod nations that host the colors red white and blue are terrified of a certain reality before them – “recession”!

Every organization today is struggling to maintain consistency on their diminishing existing return on investment whilst being unable to control their cost of goods sold due to unexpected realities that have had them in a fire fighting mode for the past fifteen years where they have had no vertical growth.

In these developing economies there is what is known as Black Money and most people in business being unable to declare those source of funds for obvious reasons have established a subliminal parallel economy that moves horizontally.

The same goes for todays’ most invaluable resources – “people”!  For the sake of an analogy if one simply looks at consumer banking one will see that at any given bank a branch manager will create a wealth pool for his or her bank and not be given any vertical growth or be rewarded accordingly.  Out of frustration and unable to protest they shift to another competitor taking the wealth pool with them and building it more and appreciating its value more.  Most of the time these same people will possibly even come back to the same employer at a much higher compensation package.

Now that was a REAL situation! But is this professional behavior practice correct?

Even in family-owned small medium enterprises the only ones that reap the fruits of everyone’s hard work are the owners and those who know how to navigate the politics of business and rather than focus on growth they are happy simply sitting behind a desk not being responsible for anything due to lack of motivation?  Thus, nobody grows only frustration.

Rather than hunt for inexperienced young graduates that blunder – companies need to re-invent their way of thinking and re-focus their core values and center them around people.  Money, social media, advertising, technology etc. do not run businesses people do!  If any organization wishes to succeed today it need to understand the most invaluable resource it already has in re-invest in them sensibly = “people” ! (This does not mean cash incentives or bonus holidays!)

In my opinion the most powerful department should not be a CEO or a COO – it should always be the HR or Human Resources Department supported by a strong learning and development policy.  In-fact the HR division should also have the power to dismiss any senior management (even the CEO) if found of mis-conduct and the HR department should only answer to a board of multiple people that cannot influence its decision.

Before making any business plan the HR department should be consulted always so that the company can be advised as to the actual cost of what their strategies will cost in human resources, time and money.  I have worked and consulted in HR and I find it extremely sad that ALL people in the organization (any company) treat the Human Resources department like a post office that they can use to do their dirty work.

People especially your existing Human Resource has something that nobody will have – it is experience of the markets – they only need to be trained by professionals that will teach them the modern-day skills focused around attaining and maintaining a steady ROI if not appreciating it!  - If a company will have faith in its HR division and entrust it to deliver quality then it will – ONLY if give true and absolute autonomy to operate freely.

If a organization is unable to meet its targets financially, then rather than terminate its exiting market experienced non-performers and hire inexperienced text book smart college graduates that smell good they should have the courage to accept the reality of the here and the now that the world has evolved and time and people are the most invaluable resources globally today!
