LINKED-IN-BLUNDERS

LinkedIn Blunders!

Stupid mistakes one should avoid!

Be Honest with your profile!
There is no point is lying or exaggerating!  It is a digital world and you will be caught some time or somehow and everyone has an immense number of enemies within their own friends.

Do NOT run around advertising that you are “seeking employment”
It does not matter how you word it – it just makes you look desperate!  Do not take others intelligence for granted – get a paid account and understand what your capabilities are and display those

Stop messaging people blindly that you do not know to buy from you (anything)
People get upset and angry! – First research them and their companies and do NOT send generic messages.  Be personal! This approach will get you further

Do NOT trash talk others or have a negative opinion about everything!
Be open minded and willing to learn – People do not like those who seem to know it all – it makes other people look at you like a lone wolf that is unable to be a part of a team

Ensure your dialogs / shares or posts are to the point and brief and NOT emotional!
People respect facts!  NOT emotions!  With facts you can put numbers to them – with emotions… well nobody would fund your idea if it did not have substantial figures with it!

Accept Defeat!
If someone knows more than you (even your competition) ensure you listen to understand – take the loss for the battle that day but armed with this new knowledge through listening to understand you can win the end war!

Do NOT add anyone and everyone you see online to piggy back on their fame!
Having a select group of LinkedIn contacts will help you immensely rather than having an army of opinionated people that will cause a distraction to your professional lives!

Beyond LinkedIn???
Do not rely on LinkedIn messaging alone – see the groups and in your own community / city and ensure you attend these gatherings!  Do not boast about how great you are!  Observe who will benefit you and understand their vision and passion (both professionally & personally)

Be Empathic!
In business there is NO room for emotion!  A client or your customer does not need tears and sympathy!  Once you have understood their issues – there is no point in going on about it because they already know!  It is highly disrespectful!  If you are intelligent then through all the observations and listening you will be able to deduct a sensible and non-emotional solution!

Never sell with Negativity!
You are already in the interview OR you are already with your client / customer!  So the tough bit is done!  Now you need to ensure you build on that!  Do NOT bad mouth the competition – never speak badly about the shortfalls of old vendors!  Do not make your prospect re-live the agony and pain!  Be positive and state what solutions you can bring to the table and what benefits you will deliver to them!  If it is a product or a service – no point in telling people about its features – they already know them!  Do always go on about the benefits that you will deliver!
